DEER FLATS, MONTEREY — October 29, 2026. Several streets in the Deer Flats neighborhood appear on the City of Monterey’s published list of 2026 road surface repair projects. The list was included in the January 26, 2026 Measure P and S Oversight Committee agenda packet. It identifies particular road segments rather than declaring that all neighborhood roads will be repaved.
Which Deer Flats streets are included?
The city table marks the following Deer Flats segments with the program code RSR 26, among others:
- Deer Forest Drive: Antler Place to Flag Hill Drive; Caribou Court to Deer Stalker Path; Deer Stalker Path to Antler Place.
- Elk Run: Antelope Lane to the northwest end; Fawn Lane to Antelope Lane; Deer Forest Drive to Fawn Lane.
- Deer Stalker Path: Mule Deer Way to Black Tail Lane and Deer Forest Drive to Mule Deer Way.
- Antler Place: Deer Forest Drive to the west end.
- White Tail Lane: Deer Stalker Path to the southeast end; Stag Lane: Black Tail Lane to the northwest end; and Black Tail Lane: Stag Lane to the southeast end.
The same document places other Deer Flats segments, including Caribou Court and a portion of Deer Stalker Path, in different listed programs such as RSR 6 or S6. The distinctions matter: inclusion in a city table is not a final construction notice or an exact start date for every block.
What is actually confirmed?
Confirmed: The named street segments appeared in a dated city planning list. Not independently confirmed: a current award for each individual block, completed resurfacing, exact traffic-control dates, or the present condition of each street as of October 29. A resident who needs construction timing should check Monterey Public Works and local posted notices.
Why the distinction matters
Road-surface repair may mean preservation or localized repairs rather than rebuilding a road from the ground up. The city list does not provide a universal scope or budget for each Deer Flats block. Residents should report hazardous pavement conditions rather than waiting for work solely because a street appears in a forward-looking schedule.
Separately, Deer Flats News has reported on a neighborhood park benches and fence funding recommendation and a Mark Thomas Drive sidewalk and crossing proposal. Those are different projects and do not establish the status of RSR 26 work.
October 29 update: Oversight members ask about Antler Place’s low pavement rating
At the October 19, 2026 Measure P and S Oversight Committee meeting, a committee member requested additional staff reporting on exceptionally low pavement-condition scores. A published meeting summary specifically identifies Antler Place with a PCI of 18 as one example and says the committee requested a future report explaining planned treatments for low-rated streets. The city recorded a citywide PCI of 79 at the meeting.
This is a new step in public oversight, not proof that an Antler Place paving contract has been executed or that the entire Deer Flats neighborhood has a rating of 18. The 18-point figure is attributed to the meeting summary, rather than presented as a freshly measured October 29 road inspection. The road’s specific status within the earlier RSR 26 list remains subject to a street-by-street city schedule.
